Michigan Lottery offering subscriptions for Mega Millions, Powerball, others: How it works
Following almost every industry in the year 2020, Michigan Lottery is now offering subscriptions for five of its most popular games.
The subscription allows players to automatically buy however many tickets for each drawing of a game each week. Games available for subscription are Powerball, Fantasy 5, Lotto 47, Lucky for Life and Mega Millions.
The new service makes Michigan the ninth state to adopt lottery subscriptions, coming behind Illinois, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota and Virginia.
Since the soft launch of subscriptions in September, subscriptions now make up 3% of all online draw game purchases, said Michigan Lottery spokesperson Jake Harris.
“Marketplace trends show consumers find subscription options convenient and appealing,” Harris said in a release.
Subscribers can purchase single tickets, buy multiple drawings at once or opt for multi-draw tickets, which must be paid upfront. Players can select their numbers and add-ons to automatically include with each week’s drawings.
Subscriptions renew weekly until players choose to cancel, which they can at any time.
Profits from Michigan lottery ticket sales benefit public schools through the School Aid Fund, reaching more than $23.4 billion since 1972, according to the Michigan Lottery website. This amounts to more than $2.9 million each day for schools.
Games available for subscription are Powerball, Fantasy 5, Lotto 47, Lucky for Life and Mega Millions.

The last player from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot was Cristy Davis of Waterford who won $70 million playing Powerball in February. With her winnings, Davis said she planned to buy a new house and car.
And while she was a lucky winner, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a winner worth $1 million sold in Hartland last year went unclaimed. The ticket was purchased at the Speedway in Hartland, but the winner never came forward to claim the prize. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
