Power Play is an option that players can add to their Powerball ticket to multiply the value of non-jackpot prizes. During each Powerball draw on Wednesday and Saturday nights, a separate Power Play number is drawn ahead of the main numbers.
Everyone who opted-in to Power Play and who wins a non-jackpot prize has it multiplied by that figure. The only exception is the Match 5 prize of $1 million, which becomes $2 million for Power Play ticket holders, no matter which number is drawn.
You add Power Play when you buy a Powerball ticket by checking the box on your playslip and paying an additional $1 per line. You cannot play it separately and you cannot opt in later. You do not need to pick an extra number to participate in Power Play; the number drawn applies to all players who took up the option.
Power Play Multipliers
The Power Play can provide 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x the value of non-jackpot prizes, although the 10x multiplier is only available when the jackpot is worth less than $150 million.
Here are the Power Play multipliers, the odds of each being drawn, and the effect they have on a Match 4+1 prize of $50,000.

What does power play mean on powerball
The Power Play option:
Players also have a chance to multiply their prizes (except the jackpot) by up to 5 times with the Power Play option. For an extra $1 per play, you are eligible for Power Play.
After each Powerball drawing, a Power Play number is randomly selected using a spin wheel. If you win a prize on your Powerball ticket (not the jackpot), and you have purchased the Power Play option, you receive the regular prize amount multiplied by the Power Play number that was selected.
For example, if you win $7 on Powerball and have purchased Power Play for that ticket, you will win $7 multiplied by the Power Play number (2, 3, 4, or 5) which could be up to $35.
The extra play is purely optional. The prize for those who do not purchase the Power Play option remains the same as always. Powerball and Power Play tickets are not cancelable.
A spin wheel with 16 slots numbered 2 through 5 (there are four 2s, four 3s, four 4s, and four 5s on the wheel) are used to select the Power Play multiplier number during each Powerball drawing show. All players who have purchased Power Play will see their prize (except the jackpot) multiplied by the Power Play number that was drawn.
The Power Play feature is similar to features used in other states and countries with good success. It’s similar to features on a slot machine to double up. The table below outlines the prize payments for each Power Play multiplier, which is 2 to 5 times the base prize.
Odds and prizes
As there are four of each Power Play multiplier on the wheel (four 2s, four 3s, four 4s, and four 5s), there is an equal chance that any one of them will be drawn (odds are 1:4 for each). The prizes are as follows:
