Powerball’s ‘lucky’ numbers that appear more frequently than others
Everyone has their lucky numbers but, according to the people at Powerball, some numbers are luckier than others.
With the Powerball jackpot reaching a record $100 million, people seem pretty passionate about numbers right about now.
Some people go with birthdays or anniversaries when it comes to choosing lotto numbers, but this could change that.
According to The Lott, the entity which runs the Powerball draw, there are some numbers that statistically appear as winning numbers more often.
Ahead of Thursday night’s Powerball draw, The Lott’s Bronnie Spencer appeared on the Today Show to give hosts Georgie Gardiner and Karl Stefanovic the deets.
“From time to time we do see a few come out more frequently,” she said.
“In the main barrel for Powerball, these numbers are 32, 34, 9, 24, and 25.
“And for the Powerball Barrel, they’re 9 and 19.
“19 was actually drawn in the last two Powerball draws, so who knows if it will come up for a third time this week.”
But before you go racing off to the newsagency, let’s just unpack that.
Those numbers are, according to The Lott, the ones that have been drawn out the most.
They’re not magic or anything, it’s just that they have historically been drawn out more times than other numbers.
“Every number has an equal chance of being drawn,” Spencer said.
And look, we don’t want to spoil your fantasies about becoming a multi-millionaire for pretty much no effort on your part, but the chances of taking home the big bucks are preeeeeeeeeeeetty low.
So low, in fact, that all those extra Es were editorially justified.
“For a 12-game entry, which is the standard entry most people purchase, the chances [of winning] are one in 11.2 million,” Spencer said.
Sorry to be grim, but the odds are never in your favour.
Amazingly, the numbers have nothing to do with your birthday.
