So as soon as I found out that Observation Point is closed I registered for the Subway (Bottom Up) Lottery and somehow won. Problem is I have done no research on that hike and have no idea what to expect. I have read a few trail descriptions (including Joe Braun’s) recently but still have some major questions. Hoping you guys can help me out.

1) Really confused on the footwear I will need. This will be an April 29 hike so I am assuming Spring runoff will be in full effect. There will be 5 of us (3 tweens) and I don’t think anyone is looking forward to hiking in wet shoes and socks for 7 miles if it can be avoided.

2) Hoping there is a “dry” section to begin and a “wet” section near the Subway? That way maybe we could do the first couple miles in hiking boots, then leave them and switch to water shoes and neoprene socks for the wet part. Change back to boots on the way back? Or does the wet part start pretty early and you really just need to pick one set of footwear for the whole 7 miles?
