Some of the funniest tweets and memes about the Powerball jackpot
We know, you’ve read a lot about the Powerball in the past week.
But the jackpot is up to a whopping $1.4 billion – a record total, easily – which comes in at $868 million cash value. The drawing for this one is 9:59 p.m. CST Wednesday, and the jackpot could grow before then.
The $1.4 billion comes after nobody hit all six numbers during Saturday night’s drawing. Your chance of winning the jackpot 1 in 292,201,338, and that stays the same no matter what the jackpot total is.
The Minnesota Lottery is buying advertising space to remind people to “play responsibly,” according to an email news release.
Essentially, they’re saying people “should never spend more than they can afford on any lottery ticket.”
Meanwhile, sales for last Saturday’s drawing topped $13.1 million just in Minnesota – that breaks the previous record of $10.8 million, set Nov. 28 of 2012 for a (measly) $587 million jackpot.
And even though nobody scored the jackpot, there were 263,866 winning tickets in Minnesota alone from Jan. 9, totaling $1.8 million in prizes. That includes one worth $150,000 and 10 worth $50,000.
Though, you could actually guarantee a jackpot win if you have um, a bit of extra cash to spare.
CNBC explains if you bought every single possible Powerball combination it would cost a little under $400 million – but says maybe that’s worth it when the jackpot is as high as it is.
Either way, it’s got people day dreaming and meme-making. And they’re fun, so here are some of the best social media posts we found.
